48th Avenue Upgrade Project
Public Presentation Boards (PDF)
The section of 48 Avenue between 205 Street and 208 Street is currently two lanes with paved shoulders, open ditch drainage and no sidewalks. The intent of this project is to improve access to HD Stafford Middle school and the properties along 48 Avenue and the functionality as a thoroughfare by adding bike lanes, a parking lane, curb and gutter and sidewalk.
The replacement of the existing sanitary sewer and the some associated water works would take place in conjunction with the roadwork. Infilling the existing ditches and providing a piped storm drain would change the look and function of the road and drainage system. The proximity of two environmentally sensitive creeks crossing 48 Avenue is an important aspect of this project and we have hired an environmental consultant to design the in-stream works and coordinate with DFO.
