Community Living Day - September 29
October is Community Living Month in BC. Throughout the month, cities and towns in the whole province of BC seize the opportunity to host Community Living Day celebrations. In Langley, our celebration is held the last Saturday of September and creatively called “Celebration in the Park”. These occasions invite us to join together to honor the many gifts, talents, and abilities people with developmental disabilities bring to our communities. We have invited the citizens of Langley to get to know those who are hidden behind a disability label, to join us in celebrating the diversity and uniqueness of all citizens of Langley, and to introduce some of the service agencies who work in our community. The community partnerships that have since been developed have now become our “collective vision” that celebrates families, and all citizens of Langley, as together, we can help make our society richer, and our community stronger.
‘Celebration in the Park’ now in its 15th year, was developed to be a fun day and this year was no exception: Douglas Park became alive with the sounds of laughter and music, with the smell of popcorn, candy floss and hotdogs. It was where strangers became friends, about everyone getting a chance to contribute to society, and it was about the celebration of diversity and community inclusion in Langley, and throughout B.C.
CLD committee wish to acknowledge the contribution that the volunteers made to last year's Community Living Days, without you this day would not be possible.
