Strategically located in Metro Vancouver, it has a vibrant community spirit and an inspiring vision of being “The Place To Be” now and in the future.  We have an attractive full-time position available for a Communications Officer, an opportunity to join a progressive and well-led organization.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Communications Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating the City’s Communications Plan and strategies.  The successful candidate will have a certificate or diploma program in communications supplemented by at least 2 years’ related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience plus thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques relating to communications work relevant to municipalities. The regular hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 with some flexibility in the work schedule required for attendance at community and other events. 

Experience in graphic design, web design, desktop publishing and photography is desired. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.  Details of the position and its requirements can be found in the job description.

Horticultural Maintenance Chargehand

Parks Operations Division

Applications are invited for the Regular Full-Time position of Horticultural Maintenance Chargehand to work in the Parks Operations Division of the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department. Under the direction of the Superintendent, Parks Operations Division, this supervisory position is responsible for manual work as well as exercising independence of judgment and action in all phases of landscaping and general Parks operations duties.  The Horticultural Maintenance Chargehand will be responsible for participating, assigning, and supervising staff in various landscaping work.

RATE OF PAY:         $32.35 per hour

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The incumbent will have considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the landscaping trade.  A Diploma in Horticulture from a recognized institution and related experience is desired.  A current Pesticide Applicator’s Licence and a valid Class 5 B.C. Engineering Operations and Parks Operations Divisions

Applications are invited for Casual Labourers to work in the Parks Operations Division and/or the Engineering Operations Division of the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department.  Some temporary full-time work may also be available.  Under the direction of the Superintendent for the Division, the successful candidates will perform a variety of manual tasks in the maintenance and construction of parks, roads, and/or water and sewer utilities.

RATE OF PAY:           $26.62 to 27.13 per hour

HOURS OF WORK:      Up to 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Casual employees are paid 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid vacation.  

Experience in the maintenance and/or construction of parks, roads and utilities is desirable.  B.C. Parks and Public Works industry related training is also desirable.  A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License is required (maximum 6 points).  The successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal record check before commencing employment.  Details of the position and its requirements can be found in the job description.
