The Arthritis Flag Raising Event took place in front of City Hall on Wednesday, September 1 at 10:00am. The Arthritis flag will hang below the City of Langley flag from Sept.1 through Sept.30. Every September, the Arthritis Society uses Arthritis Awareness Month to increase the understanding of the disease and to raise much-needed funds for arthritis research and services. Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in Canada, and it knows no barriers in terms of age, physical condition and ethnic background.

Battery Recycling Changes
Effective Monday, July 4, the city of Langley will no longer accept batteries of any kind here at City Hall or any other City facilities.
A Province wide program for battery recycling started on July 1 and batteries (alkaline and rechargeable) are now accepted for recycling at a number of locations including:
Best Buy
London Drugs
Canadian Tire
Future Shop
Pharmasave
Staples
Al Anderson Memorial Pool Expansion Project
In 2006, the City of Langley contracted with an architectural firm and through a design charette process involving a number of sporting associations, pool user groups, and staff developed a number of options for expanding the Al Anderson Memorial Pool facility and aquatic space. In 2009, council approved a modest facility expansion to proceed. The original architectural firm continues to work through the detailed design development of that addition. The scope of work will include the construction of a multipurpose room, family change room, custodial room, storage room, and public washroom facility. The following is the current schedule.

New Fraser Highway Bridge Over Nicomekl River
The City of Langley, in cooperation with its funding partners, is constructing a new Fraser Highway Bridge crossing over the Nicomekl River (“the Project”). The $9.1 million design-build Project has been awarded to construction contractor Tyam Group and project engineers R. F. Binnie.

HOV Lanes on the Freeway
As part of improving traffic flow and reducing delays related to construction for the Port Mann/Highway 1 Improvement (PMH1) Project, High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes on Highway 1 will be open to all traffic between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily. This temporary adjustment begins April 19, 2010 and applies to HOV lanes between Grandview Highway and the Port Mann Bridge (both east and westbound) for the balance of construction.
